IMM (2): May 22, 2011

in my mailbox
In My Mailbox (IMM) is a weekly meme created by Kristi over at The Story Siren. IMM is a chance for a blogger to show which books/e-books have been recently acquired either as ARCs, purchased, or borrowed. Click here to find out more.

I had a busy week last week. I am going to extend John Green Week into this week as well because I only had a chance to read Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines. This week I will continue with Paper Towns and Will Grayson, Will Grayson. If you have not checked out the Vlog Brothers videos from earlier in the week ("Grab It By the Testicles" and "The Education Continuum WARNER CHILCOTTED"), you need to jump over to John Green's website and check them out!

This past week I did acquire two books.

revolution
From Amazon, I purchased Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. The concept of this book is awesome. “Two girls, two centuries apart. One never knowing the other. But when Andi finds Alexandrine’s diary, she recognizes something in her words and is moved to the point of obsession. There’s comfort and distraction for Andi in the journal’s antique pages—until, on a midnight journey through the catacombs of Paris, Alexandrine’s words transcend through paper and time, and the past becomes suddenly, terrifyingly present.”

When I read the summary, I knew I had to get this book. A few years ago, I watched a British miniseries called Lost in Austen about a modern girl named Amanda who loved Jane Austen and would read and reread Pride and Prejudice. One day Elizabeth Bennet appears in Amanda’s bathroom. The two girls switch places and Amanda must learn to live in Elizabeth’s world. Revolution seems very similar to this miniseries. However, the book looks to be a little darker. I can’t wait to read this one! The YA Book Club on Goodreads.com is having a 10-book quarterly challenge starting on June 1st. One of the ten books is an historical fiction novel, so I think I might save Revolution for that challenge.

fallout
I borrowed Fallout by Ellen Hopkins from my boyfriend’s sister. Earlier in the year I read Crank and could not put it down. Glass, the second book in the trilogy, is in my to-read pile. Fallout follows Kristina Snow and her family nineteen years after she met the “monster” (aka crystal meth) for the first time.

Ellen Hopkins is a master at verse. One of my favorite things about her writing is the fact that the verse can be read from left to right and from up to down. I am always amazed at her fabulous style. If you have not had a chance to read any Ellen Hopkins, then make sure it is on your to-read list now!

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

Happy reading!
